Reed Smith Richards Butler vs Slaughter and May (Received from the referee after the game):-
Danny
All too often Referees are quick to bring to the attention of the league, teams who fail to conduct themselves within what we call the spirit of the game.
Tonight
was one of those refreshing games which was a pleasure to officiate.
Both
teams conducted themselves impeccably and as a consequence I would like to
advise you that both teams are awarded 100 out of 100 for sportsmanship. – We
even had an occasion where the Slaughter & May keeper caught the ball,
attempting to save a corner and unknown to the match officials the ball had gone
over the line. Both the assistant & I were preparing to signal for what we
thought was a goal kick only to be advised to by the keeper’s actions that it
was a corner.
Although
I’d like to think we (the officials) got every decision right (a most unlikely
circumstance) I cannot recollect any decision being questioned.
Thanks
to both teams – its behaviour like this that makes us Refs want to come out
and participate in your games.
